W. Barnett Pearce (1943-2011) was a communication theorist, teacher, facilitator, and consultant. He developed the Coordinated Management of Meaning (CMM) communication theory in the early 1980s with his colleague Vernon Cronen while serving as a faculty member at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. Throughout his academic and professional career, he focused on the further development and application of CMM within a variety of contexts.
